BAFTA

BBM wins four BAFTA Awards. Congratulations.

I’m ecstatic for Jake G for winning the Best Supporting Actor award. He wasn’t getting the recognition and accolade he well deserve for his awesome performance as Jack in BBM. Let’s hope Heath will win the Oscar next month, and Jake will repeat his win in the US version of the Award show.

I need to say this: Brokeback Mountain belongs to Annie Proulx, the author. The screen adaptation (note: not original) belongs to Larry McMurty and Diana Ossana and they rightfully earned the BAFTA. Larry would be the first to say he wished he had written the story. Larry and Diana made Annie words come alive on the screen. If you know the story, you’ll know the movie.

Some people seemed to think minor changes made by others warrant praise. Even adorable Jake had to back pedal in his acceptance speech when he almost forgot to thank Annie.

For me, my admiration is for Annie as the originator of the source material and for her wonderful prose for which we talked about in the forums before the film aired. Also to Larry and Diana for their faithfulness in interpretation and to the wonderful expanded scenes they created, which allowed the short story to become a full flown film.
