Let’s Try Again

The cable bums are coming tomorrow to fix the line. Hubby is taking off from work to greet them. Hope they’ll show up.

I heard from the office mates, last night’s ep of The 4400 was really good. I received scene by scene details in a dramatic oratory. ::headdesk:: I want my cable back.

Dreamhost

I move over here permanently and dern if I haven’t become a prolific poster.

I have heard Dreamhost is a great web host. Does anyone reading this have a code to offer? Dreamhost apparently offers a premium to their customers who bring in more business. I’ve already decided to switch over to them as a web host and would rather have someone receive the benefit of my purchase.

Cable Company – BBM Fandom

A thunderstorm caused my cable service to go offline and we’re still waiting for the bums to arrive to fix the line.

A whole freaking week without cable because some nitwit (customer service rep) failed to confirm the appointment with us.

The hubby is having a hissy fit. He’s the one that called the company.

I don’t watch much television. But I missed SGA on Friday and will now miss the 4400 this Sunday. I’m beginning to feel as pissed off as the hubby.

BTW, since when does a writer of an excellent story assume they will receive gifts like icons, covers, or even a community? Is gift giving a prerequisite or something? BBM fandom seems to foster a lot of this kind of attitude and when no gift is forthcoming, a writer would post a woebegone outcry to the community. Sheesh!

You know what I prefer – an archive in which ALL BBM stories are stored for reading pleasure in one place. I do not need someone to tell me which stories are good or bad. I think it’s terrible for an archivist to become political and impose their selective criteria onto the readers and they’re freaking with my intellect. I can make my own choices.

What BBM fandom needs now is old school. Communities are great but the nature of LJ is prohibited to reading stories in a useful way. A central archive could go a long ways in making reading long stories pleasurable. And it would make my day to have the stories at my fingertips.

Family Reunion

Repost

I gotta say, the family reunion in Mississippi was one of the worse we had so far.

Total disorganization – The hosts failed to clue in that people were spread across three different motels and that 99.9% of us actually lived outside of MS even the ones that were born there.  They didn’t leave instructions for us clueless out-of-town folks when the weather turned bad.  The hayride was cancel due to very hot weather and then a thunderstorm.  What’s new.  ::sigh::  Family picnic in the park totally out of the question so they moved it to a church back into the woods in which we never found.

And please don’t ask for directions.  My brothers, hubby, and me took an impromptu car ride outside of town to locate where my mother lived as a child.  We got lost. So we stopped at one of those country stores asking for directions.  It went like this:  ”go down way yonder to the interchange, go left, keep going, it’s about round there.”  This translated into us ending up 30 miles away in Raleigh, MS.  Then we backtracked, received more directions and ended up in Morton, MS.  Somewhere in the middle of these two towns on a different highway was the place we wanted.

Towns folks should recognize when Yankees ask for directions, “about round there” means a couple of city blocks to us, not 10 miles to no where.

I saw cows, horses, sheep, trailer homes, nice looking homes, and wide expanse of uninhabited land.  I couldn’t see beyond the vast number of trees on the land so I assumed people didn’t live back there behind those trees.  Well I hope the hell not.  I swear I saw swampland.  You know the stagnate water with green stuff floating on top of the surface.  5,000 people live in town.  When we arrived you could count the number of vehicles on the highway on one hand.    I can’t believe my mother had actually lived in that place.  ::shake head::

The best part of the trip was seeing my mom trying to remember landmarks, reuniting with her sisters who live in Chicago, and hearing them talk about their childhood.  Her memory is slowly deteriorating.  It did her good to have us (eleven in total) travel with her back to the place of her birth.

I just deleted my other journal. I didn’t see the need for keeping two paid accounts and other one had expired anyway. Besides, I let slip at work the existence of the other journal and it has been bothering me ever since. It’s not good mixing work and fandom especially fandoms related to slash. I guess I lost my mind when talking about shows, films, etc.

Will have to figure out what to do with my CSI Imagine archive. I haven’t updated in months and I feel guilty about that. Surprisingly, the archive still have readers.
