Cable Company – BBM Fandom

A thunderstorm caused my cable service to go offline and we’re still waiting for the bums to arrive to fix the line.

A whole freaking week without cable because some nitwit (customer service rep) failed to confirm the appointment with us.

The hubby is having a hissy fit. He’s the one that called the company.

I don’t watch much television. But I missed SGA on Friday and will now miss the 4400 this Sunday. I’m beginning to feel as pissed off as the hubby.

BTW, since when does a writer of an excellent story assume they will receive gifts like icons, covers, or even a community? Is gift giving a prerequisite or something? BBM fandom seems to foster a lot of this kind of attitude and when no gift is forthcoming, a writer would post a woebegone outcry to the community. Sheesh!

You know what I prefer – an archive in which ALL BBM stories are stored for reading pleasure in one place. I do not need someone to tell me which stories are good or bad. I think it’s terrible for an archivist to become political and impose their selective criteria onto the readers and they’re freaking with my intellect. I can make my own choices.

What BBM fandom needs now is old school. Communities are great but the nature of LJ is prohibited to reading stories in a useful way. A central archive could go a long ways in making reading long stories pleasurable. And it would make my day to have the stories at my fingertips.

    (see icon)for you. *g*
One week without cable is asking a lot esp when the provider is too daft to confirm. I guess I’d be much like your hubby. Hissy fits are my speciality. :D

I have never heard anything the like, even from the best authors in every other fandom I know.
Btw, if you like an archive for BBM stories, then I guess you will have to set one up so that all the authors can contribute to it.
    *sigh*

    Hee! Thank you!

I know and I’ve been involved with fandom since late ’90s. Some of the writers in BBM are young. I think they’re associating the quality of their stories with receiving gifts. Another form of feedback, I guess.

You did read how I haven’t managed the CSI that well, right. LOL There are three archives in existence for BBM. And none of them have a quarter of the stories floating around LJ.

Then somebody has to tell them. This is exceedingly childish. They will also have to learn that often they won’t get feedback at all.

Happens in most other fandoms too. One cannot force the writers to archive their stories at one place only.

Every fandom needs a central archive, I think! Some of the ancient little bitty ones like Mission: Impossible (the TV show) are easier to navigate than the newer ones.

Every fandom needs a central archive,…

They surely do. It would make my life easier. :-) I like what some LJ users are doing. They put up a post listing all of their fiction, keeping the post on top of other journal entries, making the stories easily accessible without trolling the memories. Can’t imagined during that for a community, though.
