Patience is Virtue

Daughter’s notebook went blinky again. Lost wireless connection to the internet. Drives me crazy. Last time this happened, a mere two months ago, I blew up my network trying to fix her notebook’s connection. Damn near took me a week to fix the network and with the help of software.

I said to her, let’s go to the internet and find some solutions because, darling, you ain’t taking down my connection. She rolled her eyes, as usual.

First Night: Her patience lasted about ten minutes. Watching the new show, Heroes, was more important.

Second Night: I made her run the command for ipconfig. The girl has to learn to take care of her own connection problems. Turns out it’s a hardware problem. So I did a search on the net and found an interesting solution. Asked her where was the “clear†button on the notebook. Of course, she didn’t have a clue. Get your manual, I said. By now her patience is hitting ground zero. And me, I’m going la le la la la da.

After identifying the features on the machine, I pushed a button on her notebook. Ta Da. Connection. ::headdesk:: The girl burst out laughing in relief and had the decency to look embarrassed. She’d disabled the wireless adapter unknowingly. Said she wondered why the button lit up in orange. Really, I said, innocently.

I made her give me a big fat kiss on the cheek.

Supernatural

It’s really is a very good show. The characterizations are sparkly and damn good. What cinched it for me is the episode about the shapeshifter. He captures Sammy. Tells Sammy how Dean feels about him. This demonic, evil, critter wanted to taunt poor Sammy into fear and doubt. I love this, when characters are revealed through the lens of an outsider. Truth can come out in many ways.

I have about four more discs to review before I’m caught up with Season 1. Will have to mark the calendar for Season 2.

But I’m still enthralled to Jack, Ennis, Jake, and Heath. I’ve been working on a Jake/Heath RPS story since July. The story is 18 pages with 5,885 words, which I’ve cut it back from the original 22 pages. Now, I think I should have started earlier in the time line. Maybe. ::Headdesk:: Why do I do this to myself.

SGA Season Finale

Oh, where have the time gone. Already, it’s over.

The best part in the SGA season’s finale was Ronon ambushing Sheppard with this huge hug. It was so cute and delightful. Man, Ronon is BIG. Sheppard was like a toy in Ronon’s hands.

The powers-to-be canceled SG-1. The show had a very good run, so no upset here. I’m wondering, though, how many of the cast will appear in SGA as some have showed up in SGA finale? Is there room in SGA to pickup the overflow from the parent show? Ronon and Teyla’s stories have yet to be explored to the point of satisfaction. It seemed they have been consigned as props in the background. Which is a terrible shame; because there is a sweeping alien worldview out there and minding the gems could give deeper meaning to SGA stories.

Ipod

Apple has a new Ipod and they are selling movies. I think it was [info] cruisedirector who posted something about this sometime ago.

Movies cannot be played on a regular DVD player. All is not lost, though. You may be able to hook up your television to the computer using S-video cables or some other format just for this purpose. I still have to read up on the technical. However, my computer is a media center and is designed with the purpose of connecting to the television. I’m not so sure my TV can handle the abuse from my computer. It’s an older model. Running more wires across rooms give me the shiver.

The movies can also be downloaded to Ipod. I have a 30G. I ain’t updating to an 80G Ipod. I love technology and gadgets but there is a limit and there has to be some rationale for throwing away toys less than a year old.

I’m curious about how well this is going to work for Apple. Frankly, movie downloaders will save any where from $5.00 during regular times and $7.00 the week the DVD hits the market for sale. The money saved from downloading could be the impetus to purchase movies from Apple. But then what about missing scenes, commentaries, and pictures that sometimes come with DVD store purchases. Will they be offered as part of the download?

QuickTime is not my favorite software to watch movies or clips. Nero’s Showtime, WinDVD, and even Media Player do a much better job.

I guess I will be taking a wait and let’s see attitude. I wish I could burn movie to DVD and have it played on a standalone player. I would download in a heart’s beat and forget about the extra on DVD.

RPS – Feeling Uneasy

I’m writing a Jake/Heath RPS and suddenly feel uncomfortable with it. It isn’t so bad when the ideas center around J and H. It’s when I bring in other family members such as J’s mom and the narrative reveal stuff one would have read in articles and magazines. Isn’t it intrusive putting that kind of knowledge in a fictional story?

TGIF

Oh I said I wouldn’t rush home on Fridays now that Jenna is writing the sequel to Something New. I didn’t but when I logged onto LJ, it was the first post I was looking for. Gah, how sad is that.

After what seems like months of working long hours, we are finally closing in on completing the audit. There were a few rough spots, mostly because I’m learning the requirements for an audit in reference to the entire company’s financial as opposed to a segment. Man, am I getting too old for this bleep.

I need betas for my Warrick and Nick story, and the one for Jake and Heath. I’m so far on the edge of fandom these days I don’t know where to start. I guess I’ve better go hunting.
