Ipod

Apple has a new Ipod and they are selling movies. I think it was [info] cruisedirector who posted something about this sometime ago.

Movies cannot be played on a regular DVD player. All is not lost, though. You may be able to hook up your television to the computer using S-video cables or some other format just for this purpose. I still have to read up on the technical. However, my computer is a media center and is designed with the purpose of connecting to the television. I’m not so sure my TV can handle the abuse from my computer. It’s an older model. Running more wires across rooms give me the shiver.

The movies can also be downloaded to Ipod. I have a 30G. I ain’t updating to an 80G Ipod. I love technology and gadgets but there is a limit and there has to be some rationale for throwing away toys less than a year old.

I’m curious about how well this is going to work for Apple. Frankly, movie downloaders will save any where from $5.00 during regular times and $7.00 the week the DVD hits the market for sale. The money saved from downloading could be the impetus to purchase movies from Apple. But then what about missing scenes, commentaries, and pictures that sometimes come with DVD store purchases. Will they be offered as part of the download?

QuickTime is not my favorite software to watch movies or clips. Nero’s Showtime, WinDVD, and even Media Player do a much better job.

I guess I will be taking a wait and let’s see attitude. I wish I could burn movie to DVD and have it played on a standalone player. I would download in a heart’s beat and forget about the extra on DVD.
