This Time of Year

Each year around this time, I take out my LOTR DVDs and play the entire trilogy.  I love LOTR, the heroic quest to save the world and the unique world building of Tolkien’s universe.  It is with great pleasure to learn Peter Jackson will be continuing his vision by producing the Hobbits.  I hope he’ll explore the world of the Eldars and their days in Middle Earth.

I also give Silmarillion another read through, picking up on new text I haven’t read before.

Although Elrond fostered Aragorn in Rivendell, their relationship to each other goes so much deeper.  Removing thousands of years, Elrond is Aragorn’s uncle.  Arwen is Aragon’s cousin.  Aragorn is a descendent of Elros through the line of Elendil.  Elros was Elrond’s HalfElven twin brother who’d opted out for mortality and he became the first King of Numenor.  It’s a mind bender knowing Elrond physically existed side by side with Aragorn.

Tolkien’s worldview is fascinating.  I have to confess the Hobbit story is less of an interest to me.  Because of the new movies, I’ll probably read the Hobbit book, getting prepared to enjoy the fruit of Peter Jackson’s vision.

Tolkien’s World

Every year around this time since the trilogy aired, I would take out my DVDs and play from the first installment to the last one, Lord of the Rings. I love LOTR, the heroic quest to save the world, the unique world building of Tolkien’s universe. It is with great pleasure to learn Peter Jackson will be continuing his vision by producing the Hobbits. I hope he’ll explore the world of the Eldars and their days in Middle Earth. The storyline, I imagined, will be about Bilbo Baggins and his buddies, the Dwarves, who’ll more than likely play a prominent role in the new movie as compared to the LOTR trilogy. The Dwarves were actually the firstborn, made by the Aule, an Ainur. Not by their by their god, Iluvatar. Iluvatar adopts the Dwarves as another species, however, he insisted that Aule put them back in the earth, asleep, to be woken after his creation of the true firstborn is made. They were the Elves.

I found it fascinating reading the Silmarillion. The book is complex, difficult reading with layers and layers of information about Iluvatar, the Ainur, which I relate to as Angels, the creation of Ardar, and the beginning of good and evil. Melkor, the mentor to Sauron, was a kind of a Lucifer in Christian religion. Melkor was taken task for the wars he created in Middle Earth. Eventually, Manwe, the Lord of the Valar chained him in the void.

Just think on the relationship between Elrond and Aragorn. Technically and with thousands of years removed, Elrond is Aragorn’s uncle even as they exist side by side. Elros, Elrond’s half-elven twin brother chooses the mortal life, an option given to them by the Valar. He becomes the first king of Numenor. Aragorn is a descendent of Elros through the line of Elendil. Arwen, therefore, would be Aragorn first cousin. She would’ve known her uncle, Elros.

This is fascinating stuff, Tolkien’s worldview. I am re-treading over old ground and reading new text, I haven’t yet covered in the Silmarillion. Although the Hobbit story is less of an interest to me, I’ll probably read the book, getting prepared to enjoy the fruit of Peter Jackson’s vision.

I can’t even begin to explain how freaked I am about this.  Seriously, do they expect ppl to upload or email an official document to prove their age.

I love LJ for its contact with fandom communities and users.  This is messing with my joy big time.

Heroes: Powerless

Nathan cannot be dead.  This is so lame.  The show having the ability to kill off characters and bringing them back alive is also lame.  Too damn easy and lazy writing.  Maya could have stayed dead for my interest in her is non-existent.

I’ve read fanfic where Methos of Highlander had been buried alive for decades.  Someone at Kring and company have been checking out Highlander.  First, they share the name “Adam” and immortality, and then the way to kill the immortal is doing something to the head.

In the brains department, Peter improved only marginally tonight.  I call it the Mohinder syndrome.  Let’s see how stupid we can make the character to further the storyline.

Angela shocked me when she suggested to Matt on how to do away with Peter.  Come on, that wasn’t very motherly.

I wonder who shot Nathan.  I suspect it may have been Noah, which could setup some interesting dynamics between Claire and Noah for future episodes.

Really, Heroes is suffering with a heavy dose of sophomore ailments.

SAY WHAT

Excuse me while I faint dead away on the damn floor.   Six Apart has sold LJ to a Russian Company.  *gggggggg*

OMFG…

ETA: Brad is back!

ETA:  I’m providing a link to Wired’s article on LJ transitioning to SUP.  Quite frankly, I’m feeling uncomfortable about this.  I wonder how much of our database will be transferred to Russia’s servers despite the fact SUP will set up a company in California.  I’m worried about the social politics that is vastly different from America and how this ideology will affect us here on LJ.  What about privacy, the financial transactions of citizens outside of Russia, and our ability to maintain free speech.  Maybe I’m overly worried.  Will have to chew on this one real good and see what will follow in the coming days.
