It’s highly unusual for me to attend a movie theater on a major holiday like Christmas. I normally spend this blessed day with family and friends, eating merrily, participating in good discussions, and reminiscing on past events.
So when a friend invited me out to see Seven Pounds at the movies, I thought, okay, this is weird. I explained to the family this year I was taking a detour, more like hit and run. Enjoy dinner and I see you later type.
Walking in to stand in line to buy tickets, I was totally stunned at the number of people who actually venture out on Christmas day to take in a show. From my observations, I saw elderly people, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, boyfriends on a date with girlfriends. Smooching, while waiting for the show to air.
The theater had wall-to-wall people. Because we arrived a little too late to get good seats, we made a request to Customer Service to exchange our tickets for the show airing an hour later.
Will Smith has grown and is still growing to an amazing actor since the days of Fresh Prince. Seven Pounds, without delving into spoilery, is about love, anguish, guilt, courage, disgust, pain, sorrow, happiness, altruism, all the emotions one could experience throughout their lifetime.
It’s a slow movie and it deserves to be. A kaleidoscope of sequential events that have you confused, bewildered; have you asking questions, make you smile, make you go ah, until each sequence builds into something recognizable. Once your perceptions sink in and you realize the potential outcome of the movie, you sit on the edge of your seat and pray. Throughout the movie, no matter the emotional state of the scene playing, Will Smith wears this predominant expression on his face. By that expression, you sense how the movie must end.
If you want an action oriented movie a la mode Will Smith style. This is not it. This is a story about redemption and secrets.

I’m testing a new feature to this site, so please ignore.
Another test
Not that I intend to see the movie (haven’t been to the theatre for ages), but it sounds as if you had a great time with this detour. Why not try out something new?!
Have a blessed time and a wonderful 2009
E, doing something different is nice. Before the movie started, I had this man flirting with me, who I shall say is the polar opposite of me in shade and tone. You know what I mean. *g* He was going for my soda and popcorn. He was pretty funny.
I also saw a preview for a new Russell Crowe movie. RC is wearing his hair in a shoulder-length bob. Geez! We have to do something about that. LOL The movie appears interesting and I do enjoy seeing RC doing his thing.
I received your card. Thank you so much!
The new WP version has threaded comments like LJ (reason for the test.) I see it’s not working with this theme. Must do something about it.
You too have blessed and wonderful new year. Hugs
Good morning,
Hope your New Year started well.
I had been interested to read your kindle or netbook -read on- , but that page will not load. It stays obstinately blank. From your last sentence I deduct that you did not like the kindle?
Can you try loading the Kindle article page again. It’s worked fine for me.
Actually, I don’t know which one to purchase. It’s the reason I was asking for opinions. More so on the Kindle since it’s a fairly new product. Maybe I should go for the netbook. That way I can surf and/or write in bed. LOL
