Review of BSG 4.12 The Disquiet That Follows My Soul

If this episode represents what RDM has said will be bad times ahead, then we are doomed.

The fleet has fallen into total disarray, crushed by learning the planet Earth is dead, nuked 2,000 years ago. They care nothing for protocols, keeping the ship tight and clean, showing respect to each other or to the military. The people have lost hope, lost direction, lost faith, lost their leaders, particularly Roslin.

Adama is popping pills, looking terrible, listless, no longer certain of anything. Roslin trashes her medicines and takes a Ferris Bueller day off from worry on the office of the Presidency. Kara looks like she has lost her best friend. Chief discovers he is not the father of Nicky, that Callie was unfaithful to him. She carried Hot Dog’s child and pawned it off as the child of the Chief. Which, by the way, where is the evidence of this affair between Callie and Hot Dog in previous episodes. Comes across more like a plot device. Zarack strikes when it’s hot, causing dissension between the Quorum and the authority of Roslin/Adama. Gaeta is in a rage.

In the ensuing chaos, there were light moments.

Dr. Cottle, the old codger. Cylon or human doesn’t matter. He’ll offer you a cup of gritty sarcasm, laced with facts as he sees them. Take it or leave it, but please be amused. He’s a joy. He’s a comic relief of heart-wrenching situations.

Watching Tigh and Caprica watching the ultrasound of their child. Caprica’s happiness and yes, the realization that wow, cylons can procreate.

Roslin exercising or exorcizing the doom of cancer. Jogging through the halls of the ship. She’s taking control over her destiny, no longer the minion of Pythia.

Chief not knowing who he is: ours and ours; yours and ours. Am I cylon or am I human. How about you’re just Galen Tyrol, chief. A hundred times better than a lot of humans and cylons. You are you.

However, the gods of evil spirits are rising in the form of a terrible alliance of Gaeta and Zarack. What will befall the fleet with the start of a revolution, an anticipated civil war? The gods know. We will just have to wait for it.

Gaeta Pictures

For Gactisgod, who asked for pictures of Gaeta.  Episode: Pegasus.  I also capped a few of Baltar and one I believe is Hoshi with short hair.

BSG Episode 4.13: Sometimes a Great Notion

See the look on Tigh’s face in the picture. It has meaning now, a reference point. He looks at ease, at peace sitting next to that blank space.

Ellen would not have ever been my choice as the fifth cylon. Why? Frankly, it’s because I never much liked Ellen just as I’ve never much liked Cally. I actually prayed that Cally wouldn’t be the fifth cylon. Her tendency toward hatred was more than I could champion if she was the fifth.

Ellen, however, is a different kind of animal and that all Tigh’s problem. In hindsight, the clues were there and they began when Ellen first arrived on Battlestar without satisfying answers as to how she survived the holocaust on Caprica. I suspected she was a cylon but then moved on as I got caught up in Ellen’s shenanigans, her drunken, flirtatious, supposedly adulterous behavior. The moves she made on Lee and to the Old Man, himself, so he says, the many stories out there about Ellen’s jaunts into extramarital activities, Cavil excluded. She had a good and legitimate excuse with Cavil. She was saving Tigh’s life. God, when Cavil finds out who the frak he was messing around with.

I disliked seeing Tigh, a badassed colonel made into sapping mincemeat in the presence of Ellen.

Who knew. They’ve been doing this for 2,000 years. They are destined to be together and despite it all, they really love each other.

Ellen reveal as the fifth cylon shattered no walls and made no need to gulp air from excitement and made no desire to shout out, OMG! My reaction was more like “Huh.” “Ug.” “WTF.”

There are holes in Ellen’s personality. A hint of something else. That something stronger than her persona leaves us to believe. Curious wording by Ellen. “It’s okay. Everything in place. We’ll be reborn. Again. Together.”

Oddly, She is Tigh’s rock. She is also his weakness. She is self-serving and ambitious.

Just how many times have they been reborn?

Are they together now, Ellen taking the form of Caprica?

Next Up: Dee. Poor, poor Dee.
