Who are the Cylons

In Ron Moore’s No Exit podcast, he gives a monologue of a missing scene that will show up on the DVD. In that monologue is information about Kobol, Man, and Cylons.

This may be considered a spoiler, so be warned.

Ellen tells Boomer:

Self-awareness is not confined to the real world.

Then RDM goes on with more monologue from Ellen (yes, I skipped some details.)

The Lords of Kobol felt that man could never break the fourth wall, could never look upon the gods with understanding and grasped the divine nature of life. They believe this until one day man stole their fire and created the 1st cylon, the 1st artificial life, and then man in his arrogance believed that Cylon could never break the fourth wall. Man believed right up to the first moment the first Centurion was built and than the great exodus from paradise began.

In that long monologue, it answered one of my hot questions. Which came first. On Kobol, man created the humanoids first and then the Cylons evolved to the Centurions. An extraordinary machine with the capacity of self-awareness, perhaps the ability to have human like emotions and obviously socialization skills as demonstrated by the Centurion who graciously assisted Ellen when she resurrected.

What does all of this means? Well, it did satisfy my curiosity about the original evolution of the Cylon race. On Kobol, man wanted to be godlike, to become immortalized in some fashion. Organic Memory Transfer allows man’s soul to live on forever with imprinted memories stored in his brains that would help shaped who this cylon would become. Is that the reason why on Earth, the cylons appeared so human-like with varying degrees of texture, hues, and physical features. When man rose to the level of the gods, did the gods expel them from paradise, a place analogical to our Garden of Eden in the bible?

I feel the cylons and the humans are closely related in genetic coding except on an artificial basis. I think the 13th Tribe started out as humans, as brilliant scientists seeking the answers to the universe, and what their brilliance resulted in was resurrection technology, and the evolution of man. That is the Centurions. And this is what John Cavil wants to be.

A machine body that could sustained well against various forces of nature and a mind of high intellect, and if chosen human emotions.

Centurions are dangerous as we all know, but I think the danger goes to a deeper level, the possible eradication of human life especially if misguided by some unknown force.
