I loved how we got the chance to see how they were before the fall of Caprica, before the end of the series. BSG does this so well, mixing in flashbacks and the present time scenes without dragging down the storyline.
Gaius Baltar really came up from dirt poor, raised on the farm no less. Ashamed of his heritage and his father. Gaius’ father rocked, wielding that cane around and telling it like it is. Should have wacked Gaius a few times.
The irony of it all – Caprica Six finding Gauis’s father new digs to live in just knowing—wow— the end is nearing.
Somehow I just never thought about Roslin having a family. Throughout the series, she demonstrated coldness, sharp reality, unemotional truth from her perspective. Who knew her character had suffered a devastating blow before the fall of Caprica. This is how I will remember Roslin, happy and loving with her sisters.
Kara’s cooking dinner for her fiance’s brother, Lee. Can you imagine a domesticated a Kara. LOL.
The Adama boys. Zak, um… Is really or was a good looking guy.
Creepy, with all of his talk about perfection. This scene shows Anders’ true nature even though he has no memory of his past life. Not knowing much about the other F5 except for tidbits on Ellen, I think Anders was truly the force and brains behind them re-building the resurrection technology. Ellen may have put it all together somehow, but Anders probably developed the intricate details. John Cavil gave him the memories of someone so far removed from what Anders really is – very slick.
Adama getting his groove back. It’s about frakking time. The drinking was wearing me down. Adama going out all like Yippie-ki-Yay, that’s more like it. Serve and protect.
I can’t wait for Part 2 but am sad the series is ending. It’s rare that I stay with a show from the beginning to the end. BSG is tops and has done just that. So what the frak am I going to do on Friday’s night at 10PM.

Hi,
Liked your review, and the screencaps were lovely too. I’ve actually used one of the ones of Baltar and Caprica Six in the limo, unaltered and credited to you. You can see it at the website link I entered. I hope you don’t mind. Let me know if you do.
I too am sooo glad Adama has stopped drinking. I was starting to actively hate him, and I couldn’t believe that it was happening. Although I do have some concerns after the fact about he and basically the entire command structure of Galactica and the civilian government getting on this junked ship for a one-way suicide mission to save one little girl, even if she is pretty damn special. If they don’t make it back, all the leaders have left humanity in the hands of the Cylons. I know they’re the allied Cylons, but this very episode, they made a giant, anviling point that the Cylons can’t be trusted to stay on your side, that they’ll turn on you eventually. I’m not sure if we’re supposed to agree with Tyrol or not, but it was a little unsettling for them to introduce that idea and then have all the important cast members go – “Okay, bye! Be good for your babysitters, we’ll be back with Hera! Probably…”
Julius Baltar and his Cane of Working Class Hero Smiting totally pwned me! The way he could reduce Baltar in less than a minute to near tears of frustration and shame was impressive, especially since Baltar used to be a bit more together before the Apocalypse! (yes, I know that’s an understatement…) I kind of want to write fic about Julius now.
I also liked the contrast we saw to the present-day when Lee was essentially accusing Baltar of some of the same things Baltar’s father had been saying in the flashback, but this time around, Gaius was actually able to get outside of himself and understand how his actions have affected how people see him. He’s usually not very good at that. With one episode left, there may be hope for him after all.
And you know, I’m pretty sure Julius *did* actually manage to whack Gaius with that cane of his once, very lightly. But what really cracked me up was when he was using his cane to conduct the tiniest orchestra in the world on behalf of Gaius’ complaints.
You’re right about Roslin. She was so soft and lovely in this flashback with her sisters, a way we’ve never quite seen her. Since we’ve met her, there’s always been this hard veneer of protective toughness over even her kindest, gentlest moments. She really was the right pick for the person to lead humanity through a truly staggering loss, wasn’t she?
Wished I knew how to thread these comments. I’m so used to LJ, I found not having comments threaded frustrating.
You’re welcome to any screenshot on this site. Thanks for the credit. All that I ask is not to hotlink any images.
Adama seriously had me concerned. As much as I disagree with Gaeta’s mutiny I do understand the reasoning behind it. Because Adama transformed from a strong leader to whimpy and boozing it up all the time. Nothing can be accomplished resorting to that state of behavior and besides, he still had a fleet to command. Sometimes all we need is push, a motivation, a reminder of who we are. Hera gave that to Adama. It was a nice contrast between Adama and Cain. We know what she would’ve done. Rescuing Hera does give hope, forces them to action. I have been waiting like forever for the fleet to move, to do something.
I don’t quite see the cylons as the enemy as I used to. Not all people of same creed or color are made alike. But I do worry about the Centurions. The Centurions started the wars, back on Earth (imo) and definitely on the 12 Colonies. Perhaps contributed to the events on Kobol. John Cavil just escalated what has been happening for years much like the Romans using the great Greek civilization infrastructure and culture to build their empire. This is of course all my own opinion. BSG, man, has done terrible things to my analytical ability. LOL
