There is also a poll over at BuddyTv. Do you think Caprica is Soapy?

Personally, I like the exploration into the characters. BSG was built on that premise, believe it or not. It’s one of the reasons why I loved BSG. To see the struggle of humanity outwit the machines. To become familiar with the characters as they struggled with various themes in religion, racism, culture, survival, and so on. BSG offered almost equal amount of drama, action, and scientific gizmos to satisfy a wide range of audience. It may not have endeared the hardcore sci-fi geeks, but I think it was sufficient.

This is where I think the problem lies with Caprica. Not enough scientific technology for the hardcore sci-fi geeks (I say that endearingly,) and not enough space/drama/fight-action that amazed others watching BSG. The storyline is about families. It may be too mundane and soapish for some folks.

What with a mother crazy with grief doing untenable things. Bill Adama’s father acting out his mafia type ways. Organized crime, religious cult, assignations, yeah, all the things we are so accustomed to seeing in TV shows.

But wait, Caprica is from BSG writers. They know how to tell a good story. Laid it out in an alternate universe. They know they will have to show the sci-fi elements built into storyline. It is just too soon because every story must progress in an organic manner. And remember, there were times BSG dragged on, didn’t necessarily provide us with the fight and flight stuff. Just remember BSG overall, turned out to be a damn good alternate universe story. Giving it time, I think the same will happen to Caprica.
