One Year and Still Hot

Such as with bad timing, I caught the ending of the movie, October Sky, starring a very young JakeyG. So young, in fact, his face is shaped full and square with the same sad, doe eyes.

Jake today seems awfully skinny. The picture below is somewhere between the youngin Jake and the skinny Jake.

December marks the one year anniversary of Brokeback Mountain film, which aired in selected theaters. LJ communities maybe be quiet for now but at DC, it’s roaring with activity and postings. I can’t keep up.

And You Are

One of the things I miss most here at this LJ is my fandom name. It’s been with me for years so I decided to use it on this LJ because that’s who I am in fandomland. Hello, I am Nicci.

[info] bbm_phoenix is a new Brokeback Mountain fiction community. It was developed as a continuum to the original Cuddlefix website which now has its own LJ community. The layout there is gorgeous. The details are very organized. Makes me wonder why I purchased another domain and webhost service when I could’ve archived my stories here at LJ in a separate journal for free. Can’t teach an old dog new tricks, huh.

I did, however, find this beautiful template I’m going to use at my new website, which needs development. I guess that’s one way of appeasing my sensibility for spending money unnecessarily.

Cable Company – BBM Fandom

A thunderstorm caused my cable service to go offline and we’re still waiting for the bums to arrive to fix the line.

A whole freaking week without cable because some nitwit (customer service rep) failed to confirm the appointment with us.

The hubby is having a hissy fit. He’s the one that called the company.

I don’t watch much television. But I missed SGA on Friday and will now miss the 4400 this Sunday. I’m beginning to feel as pissed off as the hubby.

BTW, since when does a writer of an excellent story assume they will receive gifts like icons, covers, or even a community? Is gift giving a prerequisite or something? BBM fandom seems to foster a lot of this kind of attitude and when no gift is forthcoming, a writer would post a woebegone outcry to the community. Sheesh!

You know what I prefer – an archive in which ALL BBM stories are stored for reading pleasure in one place. I do not need someone to tell me which stories are good or bad. I think it’s terrible for an archivist to become political and impose their selective criteria onto the readers and they’re freaking with my intellect. I can make my own choices.

What BBM fandom needs now is old school. Communities are great but the nature of LJ is prohibited to reading stories in a useful way. A central archive could go a long ways in making reading long stories pleasurable. And it would make my day to have the stories at my fingertips.
