My Mom

My mom told me she was ready to go.  I told her she could not.  Please stay here with us.  That was two years ago and she stayed.  I now realize the frailty of her body, of how it must have ached constantly, of her suffering with pain I didn’t know about until she became gravely ill.  Although she required aid to move around, she was not one to complain.

She stayed for her husband, her children, and the grandkids.  She stayed after suffering a major stroke two months ago.  She stayed knowing we needed time to accept and to grieve.  She stayed until she couldn’t anymore.

On Saturday, 11/12/2011 at 4:50 pm, my mother passed away in peace.

God Bless her.

Illness: My Mom

“It’s inevitable everyone will die.”

–My father

The statement isn’t extraordinary but is a “fact of life”.  You live and you die.  He said, though, as consolation to himself and to the family, trying to convey comfort when his own heart is breaking.  Watching life ebb slowly away especially when the person is his wife and our mother is rather painful.

Here We Go Again!

Well, I went ahead and did it again.  The anal retentive in me kept thinking my write-ups for book reviews truly deserve a separate website.  Yes, I know I initially set up a site for book reviews and then honestly, I thought it was more efficient for me to merge them here at niciasus.com with my other topics.

Not so!  Especially if I wanted to post other book related subjects.  Those posts would only be buried somehow among the many topics here.

So for the very last time, (unless something extraordinary happens.  LOL,) my book reviews have a permanent home at my new site, TWLIB Book Reviews.  Have to send a thank you to Bryan Healey, author of Shattered Wings, who unwittingly spurred me on to me the change.

Reorganized Image Gallery

The Image Gallery has been reorganized by category type.  All movies or tv shows are grouped by name.   Surprisingly, this was not an easy task.  NextGen Galley plugin is an awesome  application.  But we greatly need a manual that will show step by step how to make changes beyond the basics.

Site Update

I deleted my BookBlog site.  It was simply too much and I felt thinned out trying to serve up updates for several blogs as well as maintaining them.   Book Reviews do fit perfectly here at TWLIB since this is what this blog is about, reviewing films, books, tv shows, etc.

  1. What I have to learn now is how to code a redirect from the BookBlog to this site.
  2. Fix massive amount of 404 errors, created by installing WP multisite software.  Apparently, the older posts (Pre WP 3.0) on this site have been cosigned with a “Blog” slug that is wreaking havoc with my original permalinks.  The problem with bad linkage is associated with Google Search Engine.     The Engine has a combination of old and new links for the same posts.  It’s quite annoying since I didn’t create this problem.  Maybe there is a plugin out there that will help resolve this issue.

OOPS! Google Buzz & the FTC

The Feds charged Google with deceptive privacy practices in how they rolled out Google Buzz. As part of the settlement, Google must implement a privacy program and independent auditors will audit the program over the next 20 years.

Google apologizes here.

You know what really bothered me, hearing the parents of Caroline Wimmer on the news yesterday. They are suing quite a few people including Facebook. Apparently, former Paramedic Mark Musarella snapped a photo of their daughter’s dead body on his cell phone and posted it to Facebook. The parents want the picture removed from the social network.

Facebook does not get a cookie for maintaining legal rights in this case. Why don’t they just take the moral high ground and remove the picture. It’s the right thing to do.
