Cap1.10_00264

Caprica youth.  A virtual reality of the disenfranchise youth who has all the privileges except beliefs in themselves.  Destruction, virginal sacrifice, shootouts and violence in the streets, orgies, all experienced using Caprica’s latest technology, the holoband.  Caprica youth is dead inside.  The pain they feel isn’t real.

Say it so our world will not go this way of technological advancement.

Always Faithful to the Soil

“Ha’la’tha means always faithful to the soil. There’s something we got to be more faithful to. We choose our own path, to be faithful to each other as Adamas.”

-Joseph tells Sam as children in Caprica Dirteaters

Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Caprica Dirteaters, Ep 1×15

From the beginning, there’s always been this wall of contention between Sam and Joseph. A reason Joseph denies his heritage and there’s Sam’s contempt. The past is painful. One act of impetuousness by Sam as a child tears the family apart and causes the parents to suffer unbelievable brutality. As a child Joseph does something no child should ever have to do. Caprica Dirteaters tells the brutal accounting of Joseph and Sam’s past, of how their parents died under the regime of the Herac.

The father is physically broken by the Heracs, a beating he cannot survive. It happens when the Heracs, investigating the assault ( or death, not sure) of one of their soldiers, discover a gun in the Adamas’ home. The father is unaware Sam had taken the gun from this soldier the previous night. The Herac busts the father’s kneecaps trying to make him give up the names of the Dirteaters. In another room, the wife is beaten unmercifully, and then dies by gun execution. Joseph and Sam witness the father’s beatings from a safehaven hidden in the wall.

The soldiers leave the room. Joseph comes out of hiding. Urged by his father, he retrieves the gun. Sam, however, is the one who kills the soldiers leaving one wounded. He shoots them one by one with an accuracy no child should know. The father begs Joseph to return him to the soil. Joseph puts a bullet in his father’s head.

The Adamas are made of strong pride and family loyalty. Their rules are not necessarily the rules of the Tauron. They fight on their own terms. Bare their pain together. They decide how they will be return to the soil.

This is what the Adama story is about. Reuniting Joseph and Sam back to a strong family unit who will watch other’s back. It’s about forgiveness.

Daniel does research on the Tauron’s cultures, Ha’la’tha, Sam, and the Guatrau. He also searched for other companies taken over by the Guatrau. He discovers something disheartening. The CEOs of those companies are all dead. He appeals to Sam to save his life. In return, Daniel will send cylons to Tauron. It appears Sam accepts the deal, which forces Joseph to a position. He will stand by Sam. They’re brothers.

The Guatrau apparently is not a Tauron. Interesting. So he wouldn’t have the depth of understanding of what Sam and Joseph have gone through. He’s truly a man for cubics and not for honor.

Clarice’s husbands, chuckle, they aren’t as devout as Clarice that’s for sure. They go into the V-World to have some fun, pit their maleness against the Avenging Angels. Hah, Zoey and Tamara take them out right nicely. Cheated by shooting them instead of sword fighting. These avatars got a plan in mind. They want to cleanup New Cap city. And the husbands, they can’t ever go back again. LOL. The irony, they didn’t know that was the real Zoey (as real as real can be.)

Gara has Jordan suspended from his job using the excuse of an internal investigation into Marbeth’s death. Daniel tells Amanda, Zoey is alive in the V-world. She wants to visit her in V-world.

This is another great episode. We don’t have the specific details of the Tauron uprising. There’s no need, really. It always about the ideological difference between fractions, countries, whatever, that causes a war. Admiral Cain, BGS, was a Tauron. She watched her family die. I think I can understand better why she shot her XO. Loyalty is viewed in such high regard. Still don’t agree with it. But Taurons are just too passionate, and stubborn in their beliefs. Returning people to the soil seems to be just a way of life to them.

Caprica Blowback 1X14 Recap

I saw Caprica Blowback, Ep 1×14. I dislike being manipulated.

I have no idea what Syfy is selling us. They’re giving us sour grapes with some hit on return on investment. The last five episodes of the cancelled series will be available for sale in late December and we fools such as myself will run to the store to get our one season (including the final five) Caprica on DVD. I would’ve bought it even if they kept the show alive, which makes me upset. Let me explain why.

Caprica Blowback is the best fraking episode of the entire season as of now. Yes, I understand I said the same for False Labor. What this means is that the writers found the groove, moved away from establishing characterization, setting, and creating plotlines to finally settling down to tell the story. Blowback reminds me of BSG. Full of action, dramatic action with spaceship, cylons, and moral ambiguity that was the trademark of BSG. The storylines have moved forward, and we are ripped off from the pleasure seeing Caprica to its fruition because Syfy decided to cancel the show.

Building continuity from False Labor, Lacy and her newfound friend Odin are bound to    Genmenon aboard a space flight. The jumpship is hijacked by another religious fraction called the Many Gods. They execute two kids, upcoming members of the STO organization as examples of their intent. Their bodies are airlocked out to space. Lacy goes crazy and with the help of her ingenious new friend, Odin, they attack the hijackers. Lacy literally beats the leader to a pulp in the face.

Wonderful. Guess what? It was all a test of faith. Yep, those two kids are still alive.

Amanda is caught eavesdropping on Clarice by Marbeth. Amanda tells Jordan, her handler, she’s afraid for her life. He convinces her to stay and tells her he would get her a camera to record activities at the house.

Jordan requests a camera from his boss, Gara Singh. He refuses unless Jordan gives him the name of his informer. Jordan doesn’t comply with the request but does tell Singh the informer is living at the house with Clarice Willow. Way to go buddy, since you know there are leaks at GDD.

Jordan has his own method of securing property. He pays off, Alpie, the Keeper of the Evidence room, as this is something usual between them. Jordan goes searching for a usable camera. He discovers the Graystone’s evidence box has been tampered with. Jordan setup a little sting.

Clarice is told by her connection there’s a spy living at the house. The scene pans on Amanda first and then on Marbeth as Clarice looks angrily through the window. Figuring out who would incur Clarice’s wrath was easy. Certainly not Amanda. But what was horrifying was the matter of Marbeth’s death. Clarice stalks her in the park as Marbeth’s pushes the stroller with her newborn baby. Clarice sneaks up behind her and slit Marbeth’s throat. A team is right there to cleanup the mess.

With a bloody hand on the stroller, Clarice is seen walking the baby through the park.

Jordan’s setup is complete. While talking to his boss, Singh, on a park bench, Jordan knows who the GDD mole is. He gave Singh the file of his informer. Marbeth was found mutilated in a river. Clarice called GDD to file a missing wife report. Singh now knows that Jordan knows he’s STO.

Joseph and Sam are screaming at each other. Sam learns through Daniel’s presentation that the Guatrau is selling Cylons to STO. Sam’s lofty idea about Ha’la’tha is coming apart. Joseph essentially tells Sam what the Guatrau said in False Labor. It’s not about saving Tauron; it’s about dollars and cents. Sam storms out of the conference room. Daniel tells Joseph he will talk to the Guatrau. Daniel has no appreciation for how the Guatrau is using his invention. Daniel believes in eternal life without the religious aspect. He also believes in dollars and cents.

Several issues come out of Blowback.

1. The Guatrau admires Daniel. Gives him two weeks to complete the resurrection program. Once done, he orders Sam to assassinate Daniel. Joseph is shocked at hearing the order.

Really, I think the Guatrau is out of his league. I can’t imagine him having the resources to maintain the Cylons. He’s unaware not even Cyrus has the knowledge. Daniel is brilliant and a successful businessperson for a reason. Daniel knows how to play the game.

2. Through her mole, Clarice now has Zoey resurrection program.

3. At the end of the episode, we see a Cylon shooting several STO members. One kid was part of the test on board the jumpship. He’d renounced OTG religion trying to save himself. Well, I guess STO didn’t like it. The kid paid the price with his life. But more importantly, this is the beginning of the Cylons beliefs in OTG. Their introduction into the 12 Colonies begins with STO.

Is This the Seven Year Itch

Larry and Sam Adama’s Picspam, Part 2

In Reins of the Waterfall, Larry alluded to possible problems in his marriage with Sam. They rose to the surface in Caprica’s False Labor.

Apparently, mornings in the Adama’s home are chaos. Blame Joseph Adama as the driving force of the craziness. Without Ev, Joseph is hopeless and Ev probably keeps his business running in tip top shape. You know who’s cool, grandma and she’s a little scary. But Willie, man that kid takes it all in stride.

In walk Larry and Sam adding to the pandemonium. Sam goes straight for the television. Larry stares straight at his husband.

“Here we go again,” Larry says.

“Won’t you stop busting my balls. It’s a little early don’t you think,” Sam responds.

Blink. Oh oh

While watching the news, Sam is going on and on about the state of Tauron. Even grandma gets into the action. But as you can see, Larry is getting annoyed.

Where oh where did they find that coat. LOL. Something about Tauron’s preferred home décor is way too depressing. Dark wall color, dark furniture, dark kitchen, dark curtains, low beam lighting, waaaah. It makes me want to cry.

Ooops. Click. There goes the television.

“What are you doing?” Sam asks.

“I’m cutting you off,” Larry says. (Is Larry for real. double entendre)

I almost fell off my chair, LMAO. Larry is rocking this relationship.

“…you wanna turn that back on, please,” Sam says. (Did I hear correctly? Sam said “Please.”)

Yep and guess what? The television stays off.

Larry lets out the dirty laundry complaining about Sam obsessive habit of watching television 24/7. He tells the family Sam is sending a big portion of his salary to Tauron.

Larry is not being frivolous. We learn later in the episode he’s justified and has some serious concerns about what Sam is doing. Sam is running guns to Tauron. Sam does not have approval from the Guatrau to do so.

Still this scene cracked me up. There are two obvious sides to Sam. Sam the mobster, and Sam the husband. The mobster is an efficient killer extremely good with the knives. Sam didn’t break into a sweat when the Guatrau threatened him. With Larry, Sam is this huge puppy dog poodle, who lets his husband aggravate him and all he can say is please. Guess who rules the house.

Just lovely. The only image of seeing them this close. Too bad we won’t get to see the proper kiss our boys.

Larry and Sam Adama Picspam, Pt 1

Others are talking about Caprica’s cancellation. I’m going to show Caprica love with a picspam of Larry and Sam Adama.

Caprica introduced Larry in “Reins of a Waterfall” episode 1×03. He again appeared in “There is Another Sky,” and “False Labor.” Such a small part, his introduction made a tremendous impact with the audience. We were wowed. Sam Adama, a hunky, devilish, Ha’la’tha enforcer was married to man, Larry, who came across as sweet and adorable. It was great, wonderful and just as ordinary in Caprica’s universe. Bigotry in this universe lies with the choice of faith, and the place of native birth within the 12 colonies. Group marriage, same-sex relationships, these things do not matter in Caprica.

Dinner with the Adamas. Sam becomes somewhat the father figure for Willie, as Joseph forgets his duties as dad while grieving for the loss of wife and daughter in the MAGLEV explosion. Enforcer Sam is cleaning the diner table for his favorite people, nephew Willie and husband, Larry. There is something so oddly weird seeing Sam the Mobster in this setting. Goes against what we knew of him as a killer and a thug.

Are you done, honey. Yes, sweetie.

Ah, that look. Not in front of the kid. Take it to the bedroom, boys.

Larry: I’m married to a tough guy.

Sam to Larry: You know all you do is take the piss out of me, or aggravate me, or irritate me, or annoy me.

Pick your choice, Sam spoke in Greek, darnit.

Larry to Sam: Then why do you love me so desperately?

Sam: Cause I got issues.

Yep, you do Sam. One of them is called love.

The scene started with Larry describing to Willie the various symbols of their gods. Sam offers his explanations. Warm, charming and so domestic, it showed us another side of Sam and brought depth to his character. How I love seeing this mobster bow down to the people who cared for him.

As a couple, Sam and Larry are just adorable.
