Nikita

Sitting in my DVR just waiting, I carved out time to watch Nikita episodes back to back.  I maybe a fan of LFN, but I do love the new Nikita show.  I enjoyed six hours of non- stop action and drama keeping me on the edge of my seat.  The episode “Echoes” was particularly good.  The sequencing of reality and dreams.  Alex fighting the evil within herself.  I can’t wait to find out how Nikita will handle Michael discovering her place of resident.  Guaranteed to spice up the UST between Michael and Nikita or will there be a showdown of fight skills.  :-)   Nikita is building up some harem, Michael, Owen, and now Ryan.  You go, Nikita.

I’m All Shook Up

I’m all caught up through “The Recruit” with Nikita’s episodes. After lamenting the lost of the original cast members (LFN,) I am enjoying the new show. It gives hope while LFN was created as moody, somber, and absolutely no hope of ever leaving the yoke that was Section One.

Percy is no Operations. He’s a sleaze ball (sorry,) who’s taken Division (I still want to say Section One) rogue. I like the concept. There the potential adversaries from the Government. It won’t just be Nikita after Division.

Melinda Clarke is doing a marvelous job as Amanda. She has the sexy going on, the charm of a viper, the fake innocence of high maintenance. Under the superficial is a woman quite capable of issuing pain without the blink of eye. It’s scary how she discusses methods of pain and has no feelings for the sufferer.

I love that Nikita can kick ass. Yay for the feminine superman. Until she came up against Owen, her kryptonite. Nikita cannot hold up against a cleaner and reaper as well as it should be. But she can be smarter. That what I am watching for, a tough, kickass, Nikita who is also intelligent. And note this, the chemistry between Owen and Nikita is strong.

Tonight’s Episode: Phoenix – 11/04/2010 at 9/8c

Blurb

Division sends Thom (Ashton Holmes) to eliminate Anna (guest star Rayisa Kondracki, “The Bridge”), a woman who was having a secret affair with a U.S. Senator (guest star Spencer Garrett, “Leverage”). Division agrees to cover up any trace of the affair as long as the Senator agrees to help pass a bill that will continue to fund the agency. Nikita (Maggie Q), with Alex’s (Lyndsy Fonseca) help, attempts to reach out to Anna’s parents, but the conversation doesn’t go as she expected. Shane West, Xander Berkeley, Melinda Clarke, Aaron Stanford and Tiffany Hines also star. David Barrett directed the episode written by James Barnes. -Taken directly from CW website

Nikita, I’m in for the long haul

At the end of the first episode, there is this twist in the original canon.

Nikita has a partner in crime setup right nicely in Division, which I still mentally label as Section One. It’s an excellent twist having a partner on the inside, because how else can Nikita take down an organization like Division without help. Gee, these people eat death for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They’ve trained Nikita. They know most of Nikita’s moves. Right.

I think Maggie Q should be worried. Why? Alex, her partner in crime is the type of Nikita we fans of the film and original TV show know. She raw, undisciplined, with little sophistication, has a disdain for life. Who she is, it’s reflected in her face. Yet she is pretty. Maggie Q is just too damn gorgeous as a Nikita. It isn’t that Peta Wilson and Anne Parillaud aren’t beautiful. They are earthy, raw, and energetic. They grab life by the hand and twist it to their demands even when they are beaten down. Alex shows that energy. Maggie Q is this beautiful agent that has the moves to survive but should be home somewhere playing the trophy wife to some wealthy man.

Michael as played by Shane West is too emotional. Even when we knew Roy Dupuis’s Michael was in love with Nikita, he maintained a distance. Kept a cold reserve because of the danger in showing his feelings for her. He would’ve told Nikita to go, and not have this discussion of why she came back. Michael was enigmatic. All that reservation kept us on the edge of our seats wondering when Michael would break down.

In the first episode, the chemistry between the new Nikita and Michael isn’t there. Shane West doesn’t have the vulnerability, the edginess. The relationship between them isn’t convincing yet.

I will be watching the show, though. I want to see how the premise will shape up having Alex on board watching Nikita’s back and supplying her with info. Oh yes, I can see fandom slashing Nikita/Alex.

Nikita is Back

Nikita is coming back to television on Thursday, September 9. She is dark haired and sexy instead of blonde-haired, feral, and sexy. Previews are awfully slick. Maggie Q is so darn beautiful, I don’t quite see her as Nikita, which is something good. How will Maggie Q measure up to her predecessors, Peta Wilson and Anne Parillaud? Hopefully, she will own Nikita just as Edward James Olmos owned Adama in the reimagined BSG series.

Shane West will play Michael. You know, no one can replace Roy Dupuis as Michael. It’s all about those soulful eyes.
