Witchblade - Ian Nottingham

Battle weary, body reeked from unbroken sweats that had poured from his skin. Hair wild and curled from drenching moisture, Ian had begun to think he was half mad. Everywhere he looked, he saw; every sound he heard, he knew. He sat trembling from the visions of the ephemeral, yet, somehow real images of Irons. His dead father who had died in battle by the hands of Sara’s, the Witchblade wielder.

Was he hallucinating? Had he dreamt that his father’s severed hand grabbed his in the jar of pure, floating, glistening water? He had no answers but utter confusion.

Eyes clenched tight against the sensation of invasion that touched had left. A grimace appeared on his face as Ian fought against possession by his father’s spirit.

Memories surfaced of the lessons he was given. And he knew now those lessons were insufficient and incomplete. He was taught that his pale, corporeal being was nothing but fragile. No armored shields could protect. Not even the years of training in the warrior arts would always save him. It was the state of his mind and the condition of his heart that when exorcised of mortal emotions, he would be invulnerable.

Ian discovered while grasping for reality, the failure in those lessons and that his father had yet to teach another. To save himself, he should’ve never loved the one thing that was the closest to his heart – his father.
